The international conference “The Nordics and Latin America: Sustainable Mining" on October 22, 2024 in Santiago, Chile will brings together mining operators, mining supplier companies, authorities and academia from both Latin America and Northern Europe for providing insights, high level networking and opportunities for collaboration.

 

The topic of the conference is sustainable mining, in this edition the focus is on decarbonization of the mining industry by reducing emission of the scopes 1 and 2, by solution such as electrification, green hydrogen for mining and renewable energy transition. The topics are covered from a technological perspective, focusing on concrete solutions for decarbonization.

 

Daniel Eklund, CTO at Boliden will present about the electrification of Boliden mines in Sweden and Finland; Anders Sand, chairman at Swedish Mining Innovation will present at the conference about this program and its international collaboration. On the other hand, Enrique Caballero, Regional Technology Manager at Glencore Cooper South America, will present on roadmap of decarbonization of Glencore Fleet in the region. Maria José Ruiz-Esquide, Director of Climate Change and Decarbonization at CODELCO, will present on decarbonization strategy for reducing emissions of scopes 1, 2 and 3 at CODELCO. Rosana Brantes, Senior Analyst at Chilean Cooper Commission (COCHILCO) will present the forecast of the cooper mining industry electricity consumption for the next 10 years.

 

The conference will have simultaneous interpretation English / Spanish.

The venue

The venue of the conference is Centro de Innovación UC Anacleto Angelini address Vicuña Mackenna 4860, Santiago, Chile.

The conference will be at Main Auditorium (Auditorio Principal), at the same time at Executive Auditorium (Auditorio Ejecutivo) will be business meetings between mining companies and suppliers and roundtables.
